Sophie was lost, but she didn’t know. We experience her guilty childhood history, with an unloving mother, a pampered sister and brothers. We learn of her hope-filled marriage with a rigid husband. We begin to slowly understand the reasons for her breakdown. At end, we are able to bask in the love she seeks – not from some unseen spiritual source she had faith in, but from her father, her sanitarium attendant and at last a sensitive compatriot.
Excellent book. Increased my vocabulary, and medical knowledge. Quite a lovely tale, and bond of two people who met at their youth. Delightful story !
